Senegal Will Play For Sadio Mane – Kalidou Koulibaly Speaks

Kalidou Koulibaly, a defender for Senegal and Chelsea, emphasised that the current African champions Senegal are talented and ready to demonstrate their abilities as they begin their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 campaign without the injured Sadio Mane.

Tomorrow at the Al Thumama Stadium, the West Africans will play their first World Cup Group A match against the Netherlands. On November 25, they will also play the host nation Qatar, followed by Ecuador four days later.

Senegal will attempt to improve upon their previous World Cup performance, where they were eliminated due to a FIFA Fair Play regulation. The club would continue to believe and play its “aggressive” brand of football, according to Koulibaly.

“It’s true that Mane won’t be with us for this World Cup. He is a leader for us and a key player. We were a little disappointed when we learned he couldn’t attend the World Cup, but we must continue to train and compete for him because he so really wanted to go. As a result, I believe the Senegal team will support him, and we will demonstrate our reliability to everyone, Koulibaly stated.

Ismaila Sarr, Keita Balde, and other Watford players will now be relied upon by Aliou Cisse’s team to carry the bulk of the offense. The group will also need the leadership of Koulibaly and Cheikhou Kouyate in defense, Edouard Mendy of Chelsea in goal, and Idrissa Gueye and Nampalys Mendy’s strong midfield presence in Mane’s absence.

Koulibaly claimed that Mane provides the team more life, self-assurance, and optimism both on the field and off it.

The 31-year-old said he hopes Mane, who just had surgery on his injured leg, will accompany the team to Qatar for support or get in touch with some of the players on the phone to motivate them.

The Teranga Lions are competing in the finals for the third time, and Koulibaly stated that they will approach each game cautiously.

“We’ll observe it and deal with it game by game. We are aware that the game on Monday will be difficult against a good club. To win this game, we’ll stop at nothing. After this, we have to play Qatar, and then Ecuador. Our primary goal is to defeat this group, and we will do all in our power to achieve it.

The Netherlands are one of the best teams in the world, according to the defender who was born in France, and everyone expects them to win. We’ll demonstrate our abilities and calibre, as well as our ability to compete with anyone.

The Chelsea defender added that while all teams would need to adjust to the new schedule because of the World Cup, African teams are accustomed to competing at this time because of the Cup of Nations.

“I am aware that many teams may find it challenging, but we still intend to compete and prevail. Because we always leave our club in December to travel to play in the Africa Cup, I believe all the African teams are accustomed to it. We have to focus on our games for now.”
